Qantas ad in Perth domestic airport
A picture of of three oriental people being photographed in front of Uluru (Ayers Rock). They fit the Japanese stereotype. The strap line is 'See it before the rest of the world get there'
Aside from upholding some dodgy Japanese stereotypes the ad also implies that these faces are not Australian ones. Asian (oriental) people make a sizable minority of the popultaion of contemporary Australia. In fact, since the very beginning of (post)colonial Australia, there have been Chinese decended people. From the earliest years, Chinese people made up the second largest group of immigrants/colonists after the British and ahead of any other European. In fact this was the main reason for the infamous 'White Australia' Policy (see Museum of Immigration, Melbourne)
