them

Sitting on a train, I overheard a conversation between 2 young lads. One was talking about racism, kind of schooling the other boy in how to spot it. We went past Millwall football club with its large St George's flag and famous historical connections to far right political groups. He said that he had this mate at work who had a St George's flag on his desk. He had it up for too long after the World Cup so he challenged him on it, accusing him of far right politics. As I listened I was pleased that this young guy had the energy to challenge racism as he saw it. He talked about friends they shared and announced that one of the white girls they both knew was ok. He knew because he had gone out with her. I smiled at that. Does it prove anything? I wonder.
