We were stying on a property run by English people. They had nearly-Australian accents and sold the concept of their guesthouse as if they were experts on the area of the Blue Mountains
I'm not sure exactly whta it was about them that I hated, but I hated them. I hated their Englishness. I attributed their ungenerous, penny-pinching approach to their Englishness. I saw the whole venture as one about money and not about a love of the land. I expereinced it as a (neo-)colonial act of ruthless commerce... and very unAustralian.
Given that I live in England, I'm not sure where all this xenophobia, this anti-English feeling was coming from. It's funny but I'm getting less and less tolerant this visit...
