One of the institutions that I work for is thinking about organising a conference and have asked for proposals, ideas for sessions, speakers, etc.
I sent in a proposal to discuss the idea of Diversity at the Centre: moving diasporic and non-'Western' art from the margins of pedagogic practice in museums and galleries, in other words, centralising diversity within museum and gallery education.
When an email was sent round with a list of proposed ideas, there was no mention of diversity, an attempt to move away from euro-centric practice, or anything that remotely reflected these concerns. The mentioned proposals were 'agenda-free' (as if there is such a thing) questions of pedagogic practice.
Irony? Bad email management so that somehow the proposal was deleted before being opened and considered? Or perhaps the question was considered too marginal to the conference's aims and not included for that reason.
