ok this is just a general rant because I'm sad and disappointed and angry. I know I am doing what I can to give people from dominant cultural positions, in other words - from white middle class backgrounds, an idea of cultural relativity, trying to create an understanding that there are actually genuinely different world views from their own, which are in fact valid and interesting. I know they will all nod along and say - yes we know that - but my experience over the last week tells me otherwise. It's like there is the intellectual, or rational brain which says - yes respect other cultures - then there is the 'usual' workings of the brain which says, actually no - there is only my point of view and no other. Man this is a fucking uphill struggle.
