Had a conversation with C and a relative, conjuring up ethnic stereotypes and attributing specific behaviours to the stereotypes. If a colleague was orginally from Macedonia, C would portray him as warring, ready for a fight. If he was from a Greek background, the stereotypes would be conservative, paternalistic, etc... He saw all of his colleagues through their ethnicity and understood all of their actions through a given stereotype.
Conversation moved onto the Howard government and what a racist he is. C even had a personal anecdote to illustrate it.
I said you deserve everything you get (I was in a not-too-happy mood). We had a discussion about why going into politics is too hard. I should have said that politics starts with your attitude to the people around you.
