them

Worked with teachers doing some teacher training in an art gallery. I was asked by an older white man why they are not allowed to take photos. I explained that though I thought it was a conservation issue originally, it's really because of copyright.

He said, Unless you're Japanese. They seem to get away with anything they want.

This struck me as odd, though I didn't confront him with it - of course there is the Japanese stereotype of rampant photography - but "getting away with anything they want" is not what I associate as a Japanese stereotype (though I have heard it about plenty of other ethnicities, including my own).
