One of the white people in the conversation claimed it would never happen in this day and age. I didn't say at the time that it still happens in schools all over Britain or that people have been saying "it would never happen nowadays" since the 1920s... But we all chose to believe according to our own experience, I guess, according to our own frames of reference.
