them

Speaking to N about Hastings. She was telling me about how it's coming up in the world as a town, how "during the 1960s and 70s London got rid of their unwanted people, Black people, by paying to send them down to Hastings"

I decided not to question her, she works as a teacher of English as a Second Language and works a lot with refugees or asylum seekers, whichever is your prefered term. Normally she is compassionate - it was like she had two types of conversation - one based on her personal experience, the other based on what the newspapers or history books told her to think - so one was compassionate and rounded, the other was 2-dimensional, filled with myth and prejudice.
