you

I was describing a friend's artwork to someone I met at her private view, as angry.
He asked, why she was angry.
I said, you know, against stereotypes of Asian (Indian) women as passive, as doormats.
He said, but I find D is very passive.
I stared at him, amazed. He added, spiritually. It's a good thing.
He was Indian himself and I suddenly realised the quagmire of language. Passive as a spiritual giving yourself up to God or Fate, I understand and respect, but there is a different kind of passive that I was talking about and wondered about him - and I wondered about misogyny.
