This is Not Art: Death of a Lung Cell (2022)

Painted especially for ‘Are you Seeing What I’m Seeing’ 2022 curated by Elizabeth Murton (UHArts) for the launch of Art Sci Lab

The painting was a response to a conversation with Dr Maria Dimitriadi, Reader in Molecular Genetics at University of Hertfordshire, who told me she and her new microscope were creating art. I said, it was not art. Just because it’s aesthetically appealing, doesn’t mean it’s art.
We had many conversations about art, based on arguments I make in ‘This is Not Art‘ (2013).
