K's sister L came to stay. She is English and lives in Spain, was married to a Spanish man and was going to have babies in Spain. As she chatted about the things of life, she began to talk about Spain 'needing to sort out their immigration problem'. We pointed out that she is an immigrant as are all those English people and Germans who come over for retirement and live in voluntary privileged 'ghettos', never mixing with Spanish people. They take more than they give, we ventured, as opposed to the North African workers who are required by many Spanish manual industries who pay taxes and live among Spanish people.

She did in the end remember how differently she is treated when she goes to the Spanish equivalent of the Home Office to get her Residents Permit renewed every 5 years. She said she walks straight up to the desk while the 'Morrocans' have to queue outside.
