We were talking about dentists and how much they cost, saying they have to go into it for the money. N said that's why Jews and Asians say marry a dentist. Despite knowing N for years now, I don't think she knows I'm Jewish. She wouldn't say it otherwise would she?
It reminds me of a quote by the light skinned African American artist Adrienne Rich who says that she is often subject to the kind of racist comments that happen when white people think there are no black people in the room.
