I made the observation to S, who is Bengali Muslim, that there seems to be a lot of women wearing white head scarves or white veils instead of black at the moment and was that becuase it's Ramadan.
I was thinking about our holiest time, between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur and how the Rabbi wears white - and we're meant to as well - for purity and the newness of the new year.
She smiled and shook her head. No it was just a coincidence.
It makes me laugh and constantly surprises me, how much I (or we) understand things through our own culture. And how much we usually get wrong because of that. Nothing beats conversation for getting rid of assumptions...
