A neighbour came home and I met her in the lift. She was struggling with two massive bags. She had a tan - and I prided myself in recognising a tanned black skin. I assumed she had come 'home' from the West Indies... or back to London from 'home'. It's an assumption. I don't know. Perhaps on some level I don't imagine black people take winter sun, or christmas holidays, anywhere else but 'back home'.
