I had a meeting with a woman who has done an arts diversity initiative and she wanted to discuss it with me. She is white and middle class. I decided to talk in terms that I rarely use with dominant culture people. I talked in terms that I use with other people from minority ethnicities, minority cultures. I used real terms and didn't pussyfoot around liberal sensibilities as I normally do with 'white' people. She didn't expect it. She blushed on a number of occasions. I guess I embarassed her. But I guess I think we have to speak straight, be honest, before anything can change.... and especially if you are working within the area of "diversity" or anti-racism.
