them, me

Final and most outrageous installment of the history of astronomy documentary, Gods in the Sky. This time they pulled no punches. The agenda was clear: supremacy of European Christian (one and the same thing) thought and culture.

The thesis was that not only have totalitarian [sic] ideologies like Islam and Mikado China stifled true scientific - and therefore truly valuable thought - but that in contrast it was Christianity that actually promoted scientific, objective thinking (despite how we're taught medieval history).

The presenter pointed to various individuals throughout the centuries, including one Pope, who have contributed to scientific thought. I might point out here that it is likely to find individuals in any given civilisation/culture who have thought independently of the status quo, who have contributed to 'science' or philosophy or knowledge outside of prevailing thinking. But this was lost from the presenter's narration of history.
