Having been in north Wales for a few days where there are very few non-white faces, I have found myself staring at anyone who isn't white - the few Indians (who I assume run the local Indian takeaways - what an assumption !!! Rather than imagining they might possibly be on holidays - like all the other British people...) or the even fewer black faces. What's wierd is how different I'm being - in London, people are just people. Maybe because we all live and work together so everything is 'pepper and salt' - ? (sorry about the dodgy metaphor)
