D-Day, commemorating the 60 year anniversary of the landing on the Normandy beaches - the turning point of WW2. The service began with the hymn, "Onwards Christian Soldiers".
It's funny, for me WW2 is so tied up with the Nazi Holocaust that it felt wierd to begin the service with that hymn. Not to mention the fact that not all of the soldiers involved were Christian. It felt like a disavowal of my own family history - and so many others as well.
